A simple rhythm
Pray with a Psalm
Lectio divina offers a gentle way to receive Scripture slowly. Move through these four movements without rushing or trying to produce a particular result.
Read
Read the Psalm slowly. Let the words be heard rather than hurried, and notice a phrase or image that asks you to remain with it.
Reflect
Return to the words that drew your attention. Consider what they reveal about God and where they meet your life today.
Respond
Speak honestly to God from what you have read. Your prayer may become praise, confession, gratitude, lament, or a simple request for help.
Rest
Become quiet before God. Release the need to find more words, and rest for a moment in God’s presence and care.
You may stay with one movement for as long as needed. The purpose is simply to make room to listen and pray with the Psalm before you.
